FORSAKEN is a limited intaglio edition of 23 prints and 2 artist proofs. Released for the first time during Gerges' 2019 solo show "Quietus", this print was the early precursor for his current body of work investigating the delicate balance of life and death, of grief and serenity. "Forsaken" serves two purposes, it's an autobiographical work and a reflection of the the human experience. One that is suffused with ambiguity, hurt, discovery, loss, and much more. This intaglio print is a reflection of the daily challenges of our lives and the weighted fragility that beckons us amidst those difficult tides.
FORSAKEN, like many of Gerges' prints, was created at actual size. The plate impression measures 4"x6", no larger than the bird that was found at the artist's doorstep. The etching process was the ideal method to capture the gravitas of the fallen chick in delicate arabesques of etched line-work. Drypoint marks were added to strengthen values and soften etched areas on the copperplate. The final image is printed on Fabriano Rosapina Cream paper. Gerges' signature Buck chop is pressed into the lower right side of the paper. Every image is signed, dated, and numbered by the artist. The plate impression measures 4"x6" and the paper measures 12.25" x 15". The print will be shipped flat using archival materials and protected by a cardboard support backing in shipping. Please allow 7-10 business days for hand packaging and shipment of prints as each one is individually prepared for shipment.
